This portrait serves to commemorate the seventh centennial of the death of Ramon Llull. one of the greatest exponents of Catalan culture and thought in Europe. The portrait is by Richard Anckermann (Palma. 1842 – Tunis. 1907). It depicts the famous Majorcan philosopher. writer. theologian and missionary Ramon Llull in his School of Oriental Languages founded in Miramar (Valldemossa). Anckermann’s style is a confluence of traditional Roman academicism and the then-current romantic trend in French art initiated by Delacroix.
